Position Paper- Personal Media Usage

As a college student athlete my daily social media usage and routines are different from others. I like to stay off social media as much as possible but it's impossible to not be on your phone in this day and age. I mostly use apps that I have to communicate with teammates, family, coaches and peer's while other apps are for fun and a little distraction from time to time.

Routine

Monday through Friday I use an app called Alarmy to wake me up in the morning for practice, class and etc. It helps me get my day started and also will give me inspiring words and quotes to pick myself up when I feel like crap that morning. Being a student athlete, this small part of media helps me daily and is the #1 app I use on my phone.

Social Media

My personal social media usage surrounds around football for the most part. I use apps like Group Me and Messenger to keep in contact with my team. I have multiple group chats where it helps us keep in contact with each other on an easy level. I mostly use Messenger and or Facetime for my family members though.

The apps I use for entertainment purposes the most in order would have to be TikTok, Instagram, Twitter aka X, and lastly Snapchat. Most of my social media platforms just display my life and football I look at Instagram as my public portfolio. I love using TikTok and Twitter because I watch funny videos all day long!

Streaming Media

Another big part of my personal media usage would be the streaming platforms I use. I have subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Disney+, Twitch, Prime Video and many more. But none of those apps are used more than Apple Music and Musi. I'm really into and in love with music it's what really drives me day to day I take making my playlists seriously and me being a football player the right song will get me hyped.

Media for Education

Fort school I have to use certain media apps and things to help me be successful in class work. I like using things like Socratic, AI systems and Quizlet to help me. I also have outlook, word, google and other apps that I need to be creative and make papers and PowerPoints. I absolutely have to have a personal media usage throughout my education to be successful with my academic life.

Gaming

I recently started streaming me gaming on Twitch, but I've been playing the game all my life with my friends. It's a get away from reality and a way for you to hang out with your homeboys without always being faced to face. I think this another way of using media, i play on my PlayStation, I go in party chat s and talk to my friends while we play, and I also play against other online from everywhere. If that's not a way of using media in a different way I don't know what is. This is just another example of how I use media in my daily life who knew playing video games can be used as a media outlet.

Conclusion

To conclude my post, I'd want to wrap up it by explaining furthermore how my personal media usage affects me in my day-to-day life. Music really helps me stay calm and in good movements that motivate and help me move throughout the day. As a football player I have a big family; that's not me just talking about blood... my coaches, teammates and friends all stay in contact with me through my phone and social media. My personal media usage also kind of help's me keep my life organized and put certain things in compartments on my phone to be managed well. Especially with having a school email and a personal one. As a college athlete I'm influenced by others on social media platforms like Instagram all the time and I love to seek inspiration from watching someone workout or seeing someone doing football drill, it makes me want to do more for myself. Lastly, I think that videogaming online is a part of my personal media usage I enjoy gaming a lot and do it all online on platforms and gaming apps where I compete and play against others it's fun entertainment that shows how my media is versatile.
